Our goal: poverty reduction through education and employment.

Learn about The NEST teaching materials for English for Rural Tourism:
  • student materials, listening and pronunication recordings, teachers' manuals.
  • available as a free download in 6 modules or in print as two books. 

During 2010 the NEST Trust will :
  • disseminate The NEST Books 1 and 2, throughout Nicaragua and other Latin American countries;
  • raise awareness that the materials are dwonloadable for free from the internet for worldwide access;
  • support rural computer centres on the Miraflor Nature Reserve; two have computers powered by solar panels;
  • support past students of English who are sharing teaching within their communities: teachers
  • provide university scholarships to two young women from the Miraflor Nature Reserve to study English;
  • provide tertiary level scholarships to young women for other studies. 
From 2002 - 2007 we linked volunteer teachers of English with rural communities on the Miraflor Nature Reserve, near Esteli, Nicaragua; the communities wanted English to support their rural tourism programme. We extended the programme to other communities between 2007 and 2009 during which time we also printed and recorded the materials that we had developed.

Now we promote those materials and support continued learning through scholarships and computer centres. but we do not link volunteers with communities. However, this website still contains useful information, and all the newsletters, for anyone considering volunteering in Nicaragua. there are also links to some communities which may be looking for volunteers.

Nicaragua is a fascinating country with wonderful people. Come visit as a responsible tourist ; you may stay and volunteer!
