Background
to the materials These
English language teaching materials are the result of a 5 year
voluntary project in Nicaragua. Modules 1 and 2 teach basic language and skills and are suitable
for beginners and false beginners
(those who have learnt some English but who cannot communicate in
English) and are relevant for secondary schools. Modules 3 - 6 focus more on rural and community tourism, covering
topics
such as Describe your community, Talk about national and local history, Homestay, Health, Riding, Protect your environment, Bird watching, Mini-beasts, Forests, Planning for visitors, Telling stories and Visitor expectations. They are suitable for elementary to pre-intermediate students,
particularly of tourism and guiding.
Teaching methodology The
approach is communicative and task based. The building
blocks of grammar are covered as needed but the language input is
structured
around communicative situations that learners may find

Rural community tourism projects These materials were developed
and used in ‘Fit for purpose’.The materials have been compiled by professionals. However, as this is a voluntary project, they have been printed and recorded by volunteers with minimal resources which means there are probably small errors and inconsistencies. I apologise for these, but the materials are ‘fit for purpose’. |
